Fact Check: Do You Really Need It? This Will Easily Help You Decide!

Image
The Internet sphere of Cameroon has experienced a surge of viral content on social media over the past couple of weeks. Most of the viral content serve to stir up emotions or create an alert and with such content, people don’t question what they are told simply because emotions are involved. It is really simple; because it feels true that makes it true. The question on the minds and lips of everyone is; “ How do I know what is true online?” Social Media is a very fertile ground for conspiracies, propaganda and hoaxes. So much information is being circulated and made available on social networks and this nurtures the phenomena known as confirmation bias which is the urge to believe only things that only confirm what you already believe to be true, among users of these networks. We human beings have a very strong inclination to believe what favors us, even if it is clearly unrealistic. We just may ask: “Why spoil a good story?” In the social media era with conspiracies...

How to manage hardtimes; Don't complain, Dont't whin, Don't make excuses, Do something

Image
Let me ask you this, why do people complain ?   This article originally appeared on AfroHustler   People complain as a defense mechanism to validate why things aren’t going right in their life. People complain as a form of therapy. Truth is, a lot of people complain because they are hurt, confused, frustrated or scared. They can’t reason effectively with the reality of the circumstance or see an opportunity in adversity. Whining and complaining is now a lifestyle for most of us. We complain just about anything and everything. in our music, our arts, our writing, our daily conversations (maybe in our food as spices) and right now I am complaining about people complaining all the time. We complain because of the frustration, pain, and confusion we are in thanks to “society”. We are full of potential to be the best because we are blessed with the curse of hardships. Olusegun Obasanjo says “ for strength in life, we need a bit of adversity” and we have enough adv...

A Letter to my Younger Self (Why I do what I do and why I am who I am)

Image
Hey, former Carl, You are in your final year at high school. Your mum insists, ‘son, this is the most critical stage of your life.’ And when she asks what you’ll read at ‘versity’, you’re kinda lost. The fever that takes you is no disease. It’s exam fever, precisely GCE A-levels fever. Chai! Man, you were terrible at those exams. You drank some acids while pipetting during chemistry practical. The formulas of Pure Math Paper 1 bashed you so hard that you gave up. And even Abeng Martins’ sweet words didn’t succeed to convince you to keep hoping during those exams. Exams are over, boleh. Don’t you have a career in pharmaceutical industry to make? Oya, you start preparing for the concours to join the prestigious Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences of University of Douala. Because you’re taught by such a st*...

We are all aware of the various discomforts involved in travelling no matter how short the distance is. Let us take the next 2 minutes and think about our miseries of travelling for the last time for there is a solution to our woes . We all know how painful and frustrating it is to go to the park and the seats that are available are those small and uncomfortable seats in middle aisle or those seats on top of the tire. All these seats reduce the fun and comfort of travelling and even making the journey longer than normal. Another frustrating experience would be you paying for a comfortable seat and you are prepared to enjoy your journey, then you are joined by this fat traveling companion who would have to borrow part of your seat by squeezing you. And with that not being enough, snores all t...

ABC of Antibiotic Resistance.

Image
I vividly remember being well beaten for being a destructive and stubborn kid. And the more I was beaten, the less I felt the pains till it reached the moment I felt no pains but irritations when I was beaten. I guess my pain receptors were dead. I am sure present day bacteria would tell a similar story in regards to antibiotics for they have been exposed to all sorts and grown immune to them rendering treatment ineffective. Antibiotic is the medical term to describe drugs used in treating diseases caused by bacteria. They play a very important role in reducing the presence and burden of diseases such as pneumonia, cholera, TB and sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea (call them communicable diseases) which are very much alive and active in our communities. With such a crisis like antibiotic resistance, treating people with HIV/AIDS would be difficult. We cannot blame the bacteria for being resistant to antibiotics because adaptability is a natural process for them....

9 sure signs you are seen as a Great Leader

Image
Do people view you as a leader? In the movies, amazing leaders can frequently be seen making life-changing speeches — sometimes whilst riding a horse back and forth before a mass of armored, sword-wielding soldiers. In real life, leadership is a much quieter trait. In fact, you may not always even realize that others see you  as a great leader. Here are some signs that people view you as a leader : 1. Everyone seeks out your opinion This is probably the most obvious sign that your peers view you as a leader. Whether or not you're the boss, you're a fixture in the office when it comes to giving insight and opinions. If this sounds like you, then your coworkers clearly value your wisdom. 2. You're a good communicator People won't think you're a great leader just because you've got good ideas. You've got to be able to communicate those ideas too. "There has to be a sense that the person themselves believes in the project or idea," leadership ...

Can a Drunken Generation of Youths Contribute to the Development a Nation?

Image
Cameroon being a young nation is seeking development and growth, and it is said that the youths are the future of the nation. This implies that the future of the nation depends on the energy of the youths and on the wisdom of the old. But we are face with a supposed sad phenomenon in that we have a drunken and lousy generation of youths, commonly known as the “Android Generation”. Worth noting is that Cameroon is ranked high in the global classification of alcohol consuming nations. With such a generation, the development of the nation seems farfetched. So the question here is this; Can a drunken and lousy generation of youths drive the development and growth of the nation up the charts? Leggo. Normally, the youths were never conceived and they were never born drunk. Circumstances which may or may not be within their control should have influenced this generation going bananas nad astray all thanks to alcohol. One of these circumstances triggering this could be the social life...
